My Review of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J. K. Rowling

What a fun surprise.

This book reminded me so much of camping in the Adirondacks when I was a kid with my cousins and having "The Witches" by Roald Dahl scare the hell out of us. Unfortunately, I am not a kid anymore, but I still truly enjoyed this book. Just like in "The Witches", the author takes something that we all know a little about, wizards in this case, and shows her imagination at making up their secret life. Rowling makes up words and people and an entire lifestyle. What a treasure to read this story. I felt as if I was at a camp fire with a creative friend who was making up all this fun and craziness as she went along!

Harry and his friends are clever and silly. The bad kids are bad and the good ones are good. The forest is full of surprises and every hallway holds something new in the castle. This is really one of the best escapist books I've read in a while.

While reading a children's book definitely doesn't help my vocabulary, it does help me laugh a little more on my way to work.

P.S. I think Alan Rickman will make an excellent Professor Severus Snape! I hope the movie is as enjoyable as the book!
