My Review of A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson

This is the story of Bill Bryson and his attempt at walking the Appalachian Trail.

What a run this book is. Maybe for the first five pages or so, I thought "Wow, hiking the Appalachian Trail sounds like a great idea." Then he quickly changed my mind. It sounds like torture. While some crazy north Georgian or a black bear never attacked them, their trip was long, cold and tiring and their bodies were pushed to the limit. I really enjoyed reading his humorous account of the ups and downs and admired his stamina and effort.

I love the outdoors myself, and if nothing else, it reminded me how precious and delicate nature can be and how much pleasure we can get from it. And how a couple of nights in the woods can make one TRULY appreciate a hot shower and a warm bed.
